Despite the lack of snow in other California regions, Big Bear has been fortunate with snowmaking and early season snowfalls providing snow depths of 1-3 feet, very good snow coverage and nearly 100% open runs- that's almost 438 skiable acres!

This is the last post for 2011. The ski resorts have great conditions. 2-3 ft of hard pack in the morning softening in the afternoon. Big Bear has been seeing warm temperatures during the day in the low 60's to the 20's at night. This makes for a great day of skiing and riding. Hope to see you in the up in coming new year. SNOW IN BIG BEAR

For those of you that were lucky to arrive in Big Bear for the weekend of November 4, 2011, Big Bear received its first snow fall of the season. Snow Summit is gearing up to open November 9, 2011 2 weeks ahead of its annual opening over Thanksgiving weekend. More storms arriving this week so come up and enjoy the early season conditions before the crowds arrive. All roads are open there may be some restrictions so check before you depart. See you at the Lodge or on the Mountain.

Snow In The Forecast!

The storm has moved into Big Bear. It has started a little wet but the forecast calls for snow by mid-morning. With more snowfall in this week's forecast, this holiday weekend is sure to be a winter wonderland. Trade the sunglasses for goggles and get out your warm winter coat, then pack your gear and your tire chains, and come take advantage of the fresh powder. Arrive early for the 3-day weekend and plan for an amazing snowy vacation.

The Resorts are maintaining their coverage with Snow Summit at 80% open and Bear Mountain/The Park at 50% open. Enjoy the lodging and lift tickets at lower rates, starting December 17 lodging and lift tickets go to peak rates. So you don't ski or ride there is still plenty to do. Well it is finally snowing in Big Bear! The resorts are loving it, just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Several inches have fallen since 8AM this morning. The Snow Summit Race Team had their annual fund raiser Dinner Auction last night and it was a huge success. The theme is Think Snow and there you have it. Have a good day in the white stuff.

Snow Summit's Opening Day

Tomorrow Saturday November 13^this Snow Summit’s OPENING DAY! You can go to there website at www.snowsummit.com for more information. Snow making is underway at every opportunity at both resorts. Bear Mountain’s opening day is currently undecided. Chairs 1 and 8 will be open accessing Miracle Mile and Bear Bottom beginner area, and we will have a few terrain park features on Bear Bottom run. Private ski and snowboard lessons are available on the hour. Tomorrow’s snow surface and conditions will depend on tonight’s snow making. Bear Mountain Only season passes are valid at Snow Summit; pass restrictions still apply. Tomorrow’s lift hours are 8:30am to 4:00pm and ticket windows will open at 8:00am. Early Season All Day Tickets Rates: Adult $40, Young Adult $35 and Child $15 Half Day Tickets: Adult $35, Young Adult $30 and Child $10 See you on the snow TOMORROW!

Fall 2010

For all of you that have had computer glitches I to have joined up. It has been almost a year since my last post and I'm sure face book and twitter have taken over, but for you non technology users here is my latest post.
October 30th is the last day of Oktoberfest 2010. Halloween in the Village is October 31 from 5pm-9pm. Saturday night there are lots of Halloween parties taking place at various clubs. Snow Summit resorts is still operating their chair lift for scenic rides and access to the forest for mountain bikes. The Bear Mountain golf course is open, enjoy the fall colors while playing a mountain style course. It won't be long before the snow flies so get your equipment out, dusted off and tuned up ready for the 2010/2011 ski and ride season. I will keep you alert when the snow flies and the resorts open for all you diehards that want to make opening day.

Snow Summit and Bear Mountain are opperating at 70%. More snow is on its way for this weekend. Come up and enjoy before lift tickets and lodge rates go up. Starting December 18 we go into our peak season rates to January 10, 2010.

Bear Mountain Resort Opens

Local Riding and Skiing has opened up Today at Bear Mountain Resort in Big Bear Lake. For those of you that want to get some early season warm up runs check out Bear Mountains snow report and early season ticket prices on their website which you can link into from here. We have a guest that drove in from Flagstaff Arizona for the early season opening. He said there are no crowds and it is lots of fun.

Fall is in the air. Before the snow falls come enjoy Big Bears fall colors. October 31, 2009 is the last of the Oktoberfest. Also it is Halloween in the Village. A popular tradition where the Village businesses keep their doors open from 5 pm-8pm for the trick-or-treaters. No cars allowed in the village! Come up and enjoy the costumes, free coffee and hot chocolate. There is still plenty to do hiking, biking, horseback riding, flying bear zip line (new), lake tours, fishing, shopping or just relax at 7000 ft.

Wow! August in Big Bear. Where did the Spring go. Well the Fun Run car show has come and gone. If you missed it be sure to reserve for next year whether you have a car in the show or not it is one event you don't want to miss. The popular Renaissance Faire runs one more weekend August 15 and 16. Come up and check it out! The ever more popular Cowboy Gathering returns August 20-23, 2009 along with the Antique Wooden Boat Show at B's Backyard Bar-B-Que. Ending the month with Wings Over Big Bear Air Fair August 29, 2009. Still plenty of activities in Big Bear for couples and families before summer ends.

Over the weekend we stayed with Cozy Hollow Vacation Rentals, what a great time we had! It was a romantic little cabin, very close to the village, with a private hot tub on the backyards huge redwood deck with a large oak tree shading you. What a perfect, romantic weekend. We will be coming back soon. The amazing service and friendliness of the owners and their daughter was greatly appreciated.

I recently stayed with Cozy Hollow Vacation Rentals, we rented Rustic Pine cabin, it was awesome! The cabin is an original log cabin with a huge fenced backyard, and a marvelous vintage ambiance. The staff at the Cozy Hollow Lodge was very sweet and helpful. The check-in process was a breeze and before we knew it we were checking out after having the weekend of a lifetime! Big Bear Lake is so beautiful, it was amazing! We will definitely be going back soon!
